A brief history…

I have always been drawn to the visual aspect of storytelling, whether being transported by Jack London’s prose to the vicious sub-arctic forests in White Fang or haunted by the steely clack of the Velociraptor’s claws in the film adaptation of Jurassic Park.

The ability to transmute an idea, a thought, or an emotion through imagery changed my life.

I remember ducttaping a camcorder to the handlebars of a mountain bike, interviewing my sisters on camping trips, and eagerly anticipating the return of my endless rolls of 35 mm film from the 1-hour photo. It’s safe to say I began learning the trade well before taking any formal courses.

I started taking photography seriously in 2012, to document adventures in whitewater paddling and beyond and support a burgeoning career in journalism. As my assignment list grew, so too, did my desire to hone the craft of photography. I was fortunate to have some excellent mentors and the singular drive to spend as much time as possible in powerful outdoor spaces, the (at times) obstinate interpretation of manifest destiny that can only be attributed to youth and freedom of responsibility.

2012 also marked my first introduction to the world of commercial video production, a field hitherto seemingly too complex, too professional for a 20-something occasionally and temporarily living in his truck. Getting paid to kayak over an 80+ foot waterfall as part of the safety team for Bam Margera and Steve Fisher’s Contour commercial and the wrap party that followed adjusted my perception.

I began working for Fisher as a production assistant in 2014, with clients like Red Bull, Ultra4 Racing, Visit Adirondacks, Jeep, and Outside TV. During my tenure, I learned and practiced everything from how to develop a treatment and write a script to shooting moving timelapses and directing talent. It provided the framework that set me apart when I returned to finish my Bachelor’s Degree in Cinema and Screen Studies at SUNY Oswego in 2019.

While finishing my final semester, I was offered a position as the Videographer and Field Producer at the Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism in Lake Placid, NY. At ROOST, I developed new processes in all aspects of production, more than doubling YouTube subscribership, and gaining hundreds of thousands of views across their social channels.

At this time, I work with a variety of clients to produce film, photo, writing, and occasional graphic design. These mediums are integral to modern storytelling.
